Talent Quest '09 - Time to Shine

Last year, GOTAFE Benalla campus Certificate IV in Theatre Arts students put together an event for the community called the "Performance Extravaganza" as part of their course work.

The event was essentially a talent "quest" for local performers.

Held from 10:00am to midnight, (consisting of two sections, the heats and then the Grand final) the event was a resounding success, with over 50 performers coming from as far as Echuca, Mansfield and Wangaratta to contest for the inaugural trophy and $1,000 prize money.

Young musician Rick Stewart of Wangaratta walked away triumphant at the end of a terrific day of performances. Rick stated that he would be putting his winnings towards producing his first album.

In September 2009, the "Performance Extravaganza" is set to return for its second year. Updated by this year's Certificate IV students, the re-named event, now "Talent Quest '09, Time to Shine" is set to be even bigger and better than last year. Now held on the big stage at BPACC and set over two nights (the heats are on the 13th and finals on the 20th) the competition is sure to boast even more local talent, vying for the grand prize.

Over the course of the year, the group of students, consisting of Rhiannon Langeberg (Shepparton), Kirsty Heinjus (Rushworth), Glenn Kneebone (Laceby), Sam Bowtell (Samaria), Daniel Blanchard (Baddaginnie) and Ben Thompson (Benalla), have been working tirelessly to re-shape the event by building upon, and learning from, what was done last year. Envisioning a more contemporary and diverse event, the students opted to completely re-invent the feel by creating entirely new images and a catch-phrase ("09 Time to Shine!") to use on the promotional material. The result is a much more modern and vibrant look to the performance extravaganza, which will hopefully appeal to all demographics of the entertainment industry.

The students would love to see their efforts rewarded by plenty of competitors entering this year, but entries close on the 14th of August, so anyone wishing to put their talents on display will have to get in quick if they want a chance at the big prize!
