Library hits the mark with PreCal students
PreCal students at GOTAFE's Benalla Campus have just finished a five-week program at the Benalla High Country Library to help change their perceptions of libraries.
As young people don't normally gravitate to libraries the aim of the project was to re-image libraries as a place of learning and fun.
The activities-based program encouraged participation, engagement and awareness of the range of services available at the library.
The students had to use their imagination to create individual collages and to explore what mattered most to them using digital photography, print outs and photocopied images and sketches. High Country Library Project Officer, Gigi Simpson facilitated the program, "Pages for Life - The Life of Me" with funding made available by the State Library.
Another highlight for the students was a visit by Col Milligan who entertained them with some of his humorous bush poetry.
GOTAFE PreCal teacher, Barb Cockcroft said the support and encouragement of the Benalla Library staff was fantastic. "The PreCAL students will be utilising the library in the future to continue their engagement with the library. It is planned to have a session with a well-known local author next semester," she said.
