Build your future with the Skills Store

The Goulburn Ovens Skills Store (GOSS) is a free and professional service for people who want to gain accreditation for skills they have gained through life and work experience.

GOSS is a Victorian Government initiative that was established for people who have practical and hands on skills that have not yet been recognised by a qualification or a certificate.

Since the Goulburn Ovens Skills Store opened its doors, over 530 people have accessed, used and been referred to a Registered Training Organisation to gain their Skills Recognition.

Many GOSS clients have been pleasantly surprised at just how much experience they have in a particular area and the qualifications they have been eligible for.

Wendy Jenkin is the GOSS consultant, and is responsible for guiding clients through the entire process.

Wendy explains, "many people are nervous when they first visit the Skills Store. They really doubt whether they possess enough skills to be formally recognised and most people I have come across underestimate themselves. Everybody has skills and knowledge that reflect the work they do and the experiences they have had, and everyone deserves to have those skills recognised."

Ross Campbell has been a recent client of the Skills Store. He has worked as a Customer Service Officer at the Goulburn Ovens Institute of TAFE Call Centre for over six years. Ross said, "I didn't know what to expect when going to the Skills Store. I didn't know if I would even have the skills that I needed to get a qualification, but Wendy's involvement really helped and made the process simple and easy to understand."

Ross has since been assessed as competent for the Certificate IV in Customer Contact, which is a qualification that directly correlates with the work he does. Ross said that receiving the qualification had been "morale boosting and very encouraging."

The Goulburn Ovens Skills Store is essential for anybody who may be looking at re-entering the workforce, looking for a career change or wanting formal recognition for what they already do.

The Goulburn Ovens Skills Store is located at GOTAFE, at 178 Corio Street Shepparton. The Skills Store also offers a free mobile service, and can now be conveniently accessed at the following locations:
