Long cake extends cookery experience
Three local Hospitality students from Innoven, a business unit of GOTAFE, showed off their cake decorating skills in the Melbourne's Longest Cake fundraising event in Melbourne recently.
The students were Wendy Laity from the Benalla Campus and Salome Payne and Catherine Pepper both from the Wangaratta Campus, who participated in the event to help raise funds for the Cerebral Palsy Support Network.
Innoven Hospitality teacher, Glenn Kealy who accompanied the students to Melbourne said they enjoyed the experience of decorating part of the 100 metre cake. "We had seven metres of cake to decorate in an hour with a selection of decorations to choose from."
"The decoration theme for our section was Rivers which had to be creatively represented by snakes, smarties, jelly babies and marshmallows," said Mr Kealy. "We created our rivers with great effect and the finished product was good enough to eat!"
Mr Kealy said it was a great opportunity for the students to volunteer for a community fundraising event and to check out some of Melbourne's restaurant styles while they were there.
