Students walk the walk with the RSPCA

GOTAFE animal science students are assisting the RSPCA with the annual Million Paws Walk being held in Wangaratta this year on Sunday 18 May.

The students are based at the Christensen Lane Campus and have volunteered to coordinate the event for the charity. The students are undertaking the Animal Care double certificate program comprising the Certificate II in Animal Studies and Certificate III in Companion Animal Studies.

Twelve students are undertaking the project and have formed a planning committee to orchestrate the event including organising the venue, deciding on the program for the day, route for the walk, sponsorship, entertainment and food.

GOTAFE Veterinarian, Dr Celia Turnbull commented that the project is something that the department and the students were more than happy to be involved in.

"All of our students go on practical placements with the RSPCA and are able to gain an appreciation of the great work that they do. We wanted to give something back to them and this seemed like the ideal opportunity to help out," said Dr Turnbull.

Animal Sciences manager Daniella White said "The students are assisting with the event in their own time. Their passion for their industry is a highly commendable and demonstrates a strong sense of community, and the Institute is fully supportive of their efforts."

Anyone able to volunteer on the day should contact Lesley Sanderson at the RSPCA on 03 5722 2874. View Website
