Pre-apprentice nails best student award
GOTAFE's Outstanding Student of the Year Award for the Seymour Campus was won by Certificate II in Furnishing Pre apprentice, Darren Hurlock.
He was nominated as the overall campus award winner from a field of four outstanding students in their fields.
Darren won the award because of his drive and willingness to embrace new assignments set for the course. He has demonstrated enthusiasm in developing his skills and has consistently maintained a high quality in his work.
GOTAFE Building and Construction Coordinator Robert Freeman said "Darren was always keen to question processes in search of further understanding and the possibility of a better way."
"Because Darren was such an enthusiastic and valuable workplacement student, his host employer at the time extended the period of Darren's part time employment with the organisation."
"This course demands constant communication, a strength that Darren demonstrated frequently. In fact he became a role model to the rest of the class, asking for clarification of instruction when necessary. He did this openly and with confidence."
"Even though Darren worked meticulously he still found time to develop his own projects. More importantly however, Darren found time to support his peers, either with positive reinforcement or constructive advice. He was indeed a team leader," concluded Mr Freeman.
Students graduated at the GOTAFE Seymour Campus Graduation ceremony from the Primary Industries, Service and Technology Divisions of GOTAFE, the National Centre for Equine Education and Innoven. The students receive recognition for completing nationally accredited courses at Advanced Diploma, Diploma and Certificates I through to Certificate IV levels.
