Scholarship opens doors to logistics industry

GOTAFE is fortunate to be the only Victorian TAFE institute to receive joint funding through the Mick Young Scholarship Trust (MYST) and the Transport & Logistics Industry Skills Council (TLISC) to offer a scholarship for Logistics qualifications.

MYST is a national fundraising initiative which gives financially disadvantaged students the chance to further their education at Universities, TAFE and colleges across Australia and is being supported by TLISC.

Mick Young was a shearer, union official and Federal Cabinet Minister, driven by the core belief that education creates opportunity and it should not be limited just to those who could instantly afford it.

Manufacturing Commercial Manager, Mr John Bursill, said through GOTAFE’s partnership with MYST / TLISC they can provide an opportunity to financially disadvantaged students to help them achieve qualifications and begin their careers in the logistics industry.

“The scholarships will make someone’s dream a reality,” said Mr Bursill.

“Two scholarships are available for students wishing to undertake the Diploma, with the remainder of the funds available for students to undertake the Certificate IV in Logistics.

“These scholarships will make a career in the industry more accessible for those who felt studying was out of reach due to a lack of financial support.”

The scholarships cover all expenses associated with studying the course, including materials and individual subject fees, without fee assistance, the Diploma can cost up to $4500.

Mr Bursill encouraged anyone to apply, saying students come from as far as Mildura as the course is delivered online.
