On-campus nursing facility officially opened
A new facility to house a clinical nursing laboratory has been installed at the Seymour Campus to address the high demand for nursing in the Seymour area and was officially opened by Ms Cindy McLeish MP on Thursday 28 June.
The simulation laboratory has been designed for students to complete the practical component of their studies including practicing on mannequins.
GOTAFE Commercial Manager for Health, Jen Arnold said the Institute was responding to the employment needs of the region.
“Health is an area of growth particularly in the lower Hume corridor from Seymour to Wallan and up to Nagambie,” said Jen.
“GOTAFE is investing into nursing because it is a large employment and growth sector and qualified nurses are always in demand.
“Our nursing program services a wide area and our training needs simply outgrew its current space at the Seymour Hospital.
“Prior to the recently established on-campus classroom, the Seymour Hospital had generously allowed us to use their facilities for more than three years for which we are extremely grateful for their hospitality.
“The strong relationship will continue with students undertaking their work placement at the hospital.”
The on-campus laboratory now supports the range of nursing qualifications offered at GOTAFE’s Seymour Campus, including the Diploma and Advanced Diploma of Nursing.
