GOTAFE student announced 2011 AFL SportsReady Trainee of the Year

GOTAFE student Jacob Tunks was announced AFL SportsReady Trainee of the Year at an award night held on April 27 at the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG).

Jacob was chosen from around 300 students and was nominated by his AFL SportsReady Field Officer, Michael Caruso.

Jacob was working at the Euroa Secondary College and concurrently undertaking the Certificate III in Sport and Recreation as a trainee in conjunction with AFL SportsReady program.

GOTAFE Sport and Recreation Team Leader Cassy Roberts is delighted that Jacob was named trainee of the year as he was a very worthy recipient.

“Jacob was an outstanding and diligent student who always produced work to a high standard and consistently worked above and beyond the expectations of the trainer,” said Cassy.

“This is the first year GOTAFE has partnered with AFL SportsReady to deliver the program and evidently it has been an outstanding success.

“The program is so successful because it enables students to remain on the job while completing course work that is based around the requirements of the employer at the trainee’s workplace, it is practical work based training.”

The partnership between GOTAFE and the AFL SportsReady was developed to implement work-based programs that aim to source and facilitate meaningful employment and education opportunities for all young school leavers seeking a career pathway across a number of industry sectors including, sport and recreation, business administration, finance, horticulture, information technology and retail.

GOTAFE offers a range of sport and recreation programs ranging from Certificate II in Sport and Recreation to the Diploma of Sport and Recreation for further information contact Cassy Roberts via the GOTAFE Customer Service Centre on 1300 GOTAFE (1300 468233) or visit the web site gotafe.vic.edu.au.
