The National Centre for Dairy Education (NCDE) and Goulburn Ovens Institute of TAFE (GOTAFE) in partnership with Dairy Australia (DA) will host an Industry Celebration on Tuesday 17 May at the GV Hotel Shepparton.
The evening will announce the 2015 Student of the Year and will also celebrate the successful completion of qualifications by 30 students in attendance.
In total, seventy-five students completed their studies in 2015, ranging from Certificate II School-based Trainees through to self-employed dairy farmers graduating from the Advanced Diploma.
Local, regional and national industry people, including representatives from Dairy Australia, Murray Dairy and Australian Dairy Farmers will also be in attendance.
GOTAFE NCDE Commercial Manager Northern, Neil Aird said the industry evening will recognise outstanding student achievement.
“The evening will announce the Student of the Year and is a great way to acknowledge student achievement in the industry,” said Neil.
“The Student of the Year, Kyle Fleming is a great example of a student who has grown so much since he completed his training.
“Kyle came to us as an on-farm trainee, he is now developing a dairy farm and is implementing many of the new techniques he learnt with us.
“We know from our industry contacts and continuing relationships with the students that Kyle’s story is not unique and many of our students are furthering their careers in the dairy industry and broader agriculture.
“The students tell us that our training has made a difference to their careers and their lives, which is very rewarding.
“The evening will also launch Dairy Australia’s Stepping Stones Program for our region.
“The program is designed to give people an understanding of dairy farming and an insight into the industry. It also highlights that relief milking is just the starting point of a rewarding career in the dairy industry.”
