School Based Apprenticeships & VETiS Programs
School Based Apprenticeships (SBAs) and Vocational Education and Training in Schools (VETiS) courses are TAFE programs which are available at the secondary school level.
School Based Apprenticeships and Traineeships
A school based apprenticeship or traineeship provides the secondary school student with the opportunity to work with an employer and complete a nationally recognised qualification while undertaking their VCE at secondary school.
If you want to undertake a school based traineeship or apprenticeship you need to find someone to employ you and have the support of your school and your parents or guardian as you will need to sign a training contract.
School based apprenticeships and traineeships are available in the following areas:
- Agriculture
- Automotive
- Business Administration
- Community Services
- Engineering Studies
- Food Processing
- Horticulture
- Hospitality (Operations)
- Information Technology
- Retail Operations
- Sport and Recreation
For more information talk to your school SBA Coordinator or Careers Teacher.
Vocational Education and Training in Schools (VETiS)
VETiS programs provide secondary school students with the opportunity to complete a nationally accredited and industry recognised qualification whilst still at secondary school. You can complete your VCE and a VETiS certificate at the same time, giving you greater opportunities for further study or work and an understanding of field in which you are interested.
VETiS programs are practical courses which provide students with training, knowledge and work experience in a specific area. VETiS participation is organised through your secondary school with a variety of programs available. In most regions, secondary schools work together as a cluster to offer a greater range of programs. Some are offered at your secondary school, some at another secondary school in your region and some are held at a TAFE campus.
Many students choose an area to study which interests them for a future career. Others choose programs which provide skills useful for any career. Your careers adviser at school can assist with choosing a VETiS program that suits you.
For more information talk to your school VETiS Coordinator or Careers Teacher.
