This qualification is designed to meet the needs of builders and managers of small to medium-sized building businesses.

The builder may also be the appropriately licensed person with responsibility under the relevant building licensing authority in the State or Territory. Builder licensing varies across States and Territories and additional requirements to attainment of this qualification may be required.

Occupational titles may include builder, construction manager or site supervisor.

Entry Requirements
Prospective students must have completed Certificate III in General Construction or equivalent or have substantial recent experience working in the building and construction industry for a minimum of 5 years. Completion of the general induction training program specified by the National Code of Practice for Induction Training for Construction Work (SAC 2006) is required before entering a construction work site. Achievement of unit CPCCOHS1001A covers this requirement.

Pathways
Successful completion of this course will allow students to apply to become a registered builder and undertake further study at Diploma level.

Career Information
Upon graduation, occupational titles may include builder, construction manager or site supervisor.

Additional Information
Please note: For entry into this course it is expected that students are currently working in the building industry.

Assessment
Participants are assessed via completion of required tasks and a demonstration of skills, eg. Written and verbal assignments, practical work, classroom participation, projects and/or written tests.

Study mode
The qualification has compulsory unit of competency requirements that cover common skills for the construction industry. The construction industry strongly affirms that training and assessment leading to recognition of skills must be undertaken in a real or very closely simulated workplace environment and this qualification requires all units of competency to be delivered in this context.

Skills Recognition
Skills Recognition is the process of gaining formal recognition for skills and knowledge that have been obtained through work history, previous study and life experience. Skills Recognition is an assessment-only process - there is no formal training involved, although you may choose to complete further training as a result of the assessment process. Skills Recognition is made up of one or more of the following processes including credit transfer and recognition of prior learning.

Fees
The standard hourly fee for this course in a Government subsidised place is $2.17.
A funded student can expect to pay no more than $2,148.30 in tuition fees to complete this course.
