Diploma of Children's Services (Early Childhood Education & Care)

This course gives students the knowledge and skills to work within a variety of Early Childhood settings at a high level of responsibility. Subject areas include child development, communication, behaviour and guidance, additional needs, professional and legal studies, OH&S, program planning, observation, communication with families, play, creativity and visual arts.

Career progression is possible with relevant experience to coordinators, team leaders and manager positions. Successful completion of this course will allow students to have responsibility in developing and evaluating Early Childhood programs. At this level there is a responsibility for the supervision of other staff and volunteers.

Entry Requirements
Prospective students must have completed CHC30708 Certificate III in Children’s Services. Applicants will be required to complete a language and literacy activity, attend an interview and produce a satisfactory police check and Working with Children Check prior to enrolment.

Pathways
This course provides a pathway to further study at Advanced Diploma or university level in the children’s services sector.

Career Information

Additional Information
Practical placment is undertaken in a variety of long day care settings. Placement is usually completed in blocks of 5 - 25 days.

Assessment
Participants are assessed via completion of required tasks and a demonstration of skills, eg. Written and verbal assignments, practical work, classroom participation, projects and/or written tests

Study mode
This course can be completed on campus, as a traineeship in the workplace, via distance education or through Skills Recognition.

Skills Recognition
Skills Recognition is the process of gaining formal recognition for skills and knowledge that have been obtained through work history, previous study and life experience. Skills Recognition is an assessment-only process - there is no formal training involved, although you may choose to complete further training as a result of the assessment process. Skills Recognition is made up of one or more of the following processes including credit transfer and recognition of prior learning.
