Certificate IV in Companion Animal Services is the nationally recognised qualification for business owners/managers and long-term experienced employees of animal shelters, boarding kennels & catteries, animal breeding, animal training, pet shops, aquarium, aviary and animal grooming businesses. Skills in business management, stock control, animal handling, animal behaviour, animal training, OHS, animal health, grooming, merchandising, and the selection, care and sales of animals such as dogs, cats, birds, fish, reptiles and other pets are covered.

Entry Requirements
Applicants must be employed within the Companion Animal Industry and be working at a supervisory or managerial level. If you do not meet the entry requirements of this course, please consider applying for the Certificate III in Animal Studies or Certificate III in Companion Animal Services to start your training for a career working with animals.

Career Information
This qualification is the industry qualification for persons operating at a senior level within a companion animal organisation for such jobs as: pet shop/aquarium manager, companion animal trainer/behaviourist, companion animal breeder, companion animal groomer, boarding kennel or cattery manager, animal shelter supervisor/manager, pet minding and exercise operator and mobile hydro-bathing operator.

Assessment
Participants are assessed via completion of required tasks and a demonstration of skills, eg. Written assignments and projects, completion of practical tasks, and workplace assessment.

Study mode
This course is offered through Workplace-based learning and distance education, with enrolments taken throughout the year.

Skills Recognition
Skills Recognition is the process of gaining formal recognition for skills and knowledge that have been obtained through work history, previous study and life experience. Skills Recognition is an assessment-only process - there is no formal training involved, although you may choose to complete further training as a result of the assessment process. Skills Recognition is made up of one or more of the following processes including credit transfer and recognition of prior learning.

Fees
The standard hourly fee for this course in a Government subsidised place is $2.80.
A funded student can expect to pay no more than $2,562.00 in tuition fees to complete this course.
