This course in Preliminary Spoken and Written English is aimed at students with a multicultural background and will have English as a second language.
This course will develop skills for learners who have no or low levels of formal education, have no or very limited literacy skills in English and may not have literacy skills in Level 1.
Entry Requirements
Initial assessment across the four macroskills of listening, speaking, reading and writing against the International Second Language Proficiency Rating (ISLPR) determines the entry pint to a particular Certificate level. The proficiency level for entry into Certificate III in Spoken and Written English in ISLPR 0 across all macroskills.
For learners with mixed profile it is possible for them to be enrolled across Certificate levels. For example, a learner with a high literacy lag and higher oracy can be enrolled in certificates II and III simultaneously.
Pathways
Successful completion will lead to Certificate I in Spoken and Written English.

Assessment
Participants are assessed via completion of required tasks and a demonstration of skills, eg. Written and verbal assignments, practical work, classroom participation, projects and/or written tests.

Skills Recognition is an assessment-only process - there is no formal training involved, although you may choose to complete further training as a result of the assessment process. Skills Recognition is made up of one or more of the following processes including credit transfer and recognition of prior learning.

The standard hourly fee for this course in a Government subsidised place is $1.10.
