The CHC30213 Certificate III in Education Support is the recognised qualification to become a qualified teacher’s aide.
The Certificate III in Education Support gives you the skills you need to work in any school, with children or young people. You could work one-on-one with a child with special needs, or help out in a class. If you want to further your studies, there are pathways to further study, including Primary Teaching.
Students will learn how to support the education, learning and behaviours of children and young people, including students from other cultures and those with learning challenges and disabilities. Additionally, they will develop skills in implementing education support programs and contributing to the organization and management of the classroom, while gaining insight into legislative, policy and industrial requirements.
This course is offered on campus, as a school based apprenticeship, a traineeship and can be facilitated as a school based fee for service program under a specific school arrangement.
You will be enrolled into a current qualification.

The CHC30213 Certificate III in Education Support is designed for those wishing to further their knowledge and skills to seek employment in the Education profession possibly as a:
- generalist education assistant
- education assistant (special education)

- home tutor
- literacy support worker
Working in this industry may involve working outside of usual school hours, working with children who have additional needs, and working with parents, families and guardians, as well as other service providers and education staff.
After gaining the CHC30213 Certificate III in Education Support you might wish to undertake further study in CHC40213 Certificate IV in Education Support.

It is important that students commit to all course requirements, including study and assessments the student may need to complete outside their normal training sessions or work hours.
Training hours may vary depending on the number of units a prospective student, employer or auspice require.
On Campus: Training occurs on campus in Seymour.
SBA /Traineeship: The majority of training is completed “On the Job”, supplemented by a blended delivery approach. This involves interaction with Moodle, participation in forum discussions, workplace training and assessment visits, and attendance at 4 scheduled workshops to cover topics such as legislation, literacy, numeracy, and cultural safety. Webinars and negotiated catch up sessions are offered as required to provide trainees with the support they need to achieve success. Learning resources are provided for all subjects; these contain information and knowledge that will support assessment completion.
It is important that trainees and SBA’s commit to all course requirements, including study, assessments and skills demonstrations.
Workplace attendance requirements are in accordance with employer policies & procedures.
Auspice delivery provided by specific school: Students undertake the course in an external environment, with all aspects of training and assessment completed by the school. The school will outline class times and attendance expectations.

The student tuition fees as published are subject to change given individual circumstances at enrolment.
You will receive an Indicative Fee Statement when you decide upon your course. A finalised invoice will be issued upon enrolment. Students will be invoiced for the components of the course that they are enrolled into for each year or semester.

- E-Learning resources and associated license access fees
Additionally some courses require students to purchase or supply text books, kits, tools, uniforms and personal protection equipment. Some specific materials may be purchased through the GOTAFE Book Shop. Before being accepted into the course applicants must:
- Undertake a pre-training review to assess suitability for the course. This includes documenting previous work experience, prior qualifications and strategies to support study and course completion.
- Complete a Core Skills Profile for Adults (CSPA) test to ensure the required language, literacy and numeracy levels are met for the course.
- Register with the Australian Apprenticeship Support Network (Apprentices and trainees only)
Students will also be required to attend a formal interview and have a current and successful Police and Working with Children Checks

There are a number of assessments required to complete each unit/cluster of competence. The method of assessment may include:
- question and answer tasks
- completion of workbooks
- workplace observation
Skills Recognition is an assessment only process that may result in credits towards a part or full qualification. There is no formal training involved, although you may choose to complete further training as a result of the assessment process.
You can apply for Skills Recognition before you enrol in the qualification you are seeking. You can apply for Skills Recognition through one or both of the following processes:
- Credit Transfer for formal training that might be equivalent to a new qualification or partial qualification
- Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) for people who have relevant and current skills and knowledge that they have gained through non-formal or informal learning i.e. work or life experience.
