Course Overview

The AHC30416 Certificate III in Pork Production is designed for those wishing to further their knowledge and skills to seek employment in the Pork Production industry as a Stockperson (Pork Production).

The welfare legislation in Victoria (the Livestock Management Act, LMA) requires that “pigs must be cared for by personnel who are skilled in pig husbandry and are suitably qualified to maintain the health and welfare of animals in accordance with the standards in the Act, or are under the direct supervision of such personnel.” This is the course that will provide you with all the necessary skills and knowledge to meet the legislated requirements.

This course is run as the full qualification, or there is an option to complete a specific Skill Set.

Students are required to be currently working in the Livestock industry, or have had recent and lengthy experience in the industry. Students will require access to a Pork Production workplace in order to undertake this course.

You will be enrolled into a current qualification.

The AHC30416 – Certificate III in Pork Production is designed for those wishing to further their knowledge and skills to seek employment in the Pork Production industry.

Working in this industry may involve working with animals and observing and treating them. It may also involve working outdoors and indoors in a variety of weather conditions, and operating a range of machinery, equipment and vehicles. It requires a medium degree of fitness, and at times may require you to work alone or in a team.

After gaining the AHC30416 – Certificate III in Pork Production, you might wish to undertake further study in the AHC40116 – Certificate IV in Agriculture or AHC41016 – Certificate IV in Agribusiness.

Skills Recognition is an assessment only process that may result in credits towards a part or full qualification.  There is no formal training involved, although you may choose to complete further training as a result of the assessment process.

You can apply for Skills Recognition before you enrol in the qualification you are seeking.  You can apply for Skills Recognition through one or both of the following processes:

  • Credit Transfer for formal training that might be equivalent to a new qualification or partial qualification
  • Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) for people who have relevant and current skills and knowledge that they have gained through non-formal or informal learning i.e. work or life experience.
