GOTAFE’s Regional Academy of Dramatic Arts (GRADA) will open the doors to a new dance studio in Wangaratta later this month.
GRADA is the premier program for Performing Arts and Theatre Production training in regional Victoria.
GOTAFE Design, Art, Sport and Recreation Commercial Manager, Ian Poole, said the program is relocating its operations from its original base in Benalla, to offer dance training in the Wangaratta community.
“We are excited to be offering dance and movement training in Wangaratta for the first time.”
The new studio will offer Certificate III to Diploma level dance courses focusing on physical skills, technical based training and teaching and management in emerging performance fields.
“This program is ideal for young people who already have some experience in dance to gain a qualification and pick up some teaching skills of their own,” said Mr Poole.
Leading the team will be award winning trainer Kerrie Sinclair. Ms Sinclair has spent her career travelling the world following her passion working as a choreographer, fight director and performer in both live theatre and film in Australia, Brazil, Europe and Hong Kong.
“Kerrie’s twenty five years in the industry has included performances for The Australian Shakespeare Company, JUTE Theatre, Passion Pictures (UK), Scottish Reel Dance Film Festival, Melbourne Spring Fashion Festival, and numerous other festival and film projects.
“She has lectured extensively in dance and stage combat training methods in Brazil, Australia and the UK and has been working with us at GOTAFE since 2011, producing innovative dance theatre performances and exploring various movement training methods for dancers and actors.
“Kerrie’s experience coupled with a reorientation of our courses sees a new chapter for GRADA, providing high quality training right here in Wangaratta.”
An enrolment session for those interested in further information in dance training will be held at 10am on Monday 15 February 2016 at the new studio, located on the GOTAFE Wangaratta Campus in Docker Street.
Specialist Contemporary Dance including Aerial Tissu programs will commence on 22 February 2016.
