World Class – that’s us!
Our mission is to be “A world class Institute delivering quality education and training beyond expectations”.
So what does “world class” mean?
A ‘world class’ activity is recognised by external agencies as best practice at the state or national level.
In what ways are we world class?
The following activities, in no particular order, have received state or national recognition since 2006.
2008
Corporate
- Multimedia Teams interactive CD Rom “This way to your future” winner of the Australian Freight Industry Promotion and Careers Award
- The Multimedia Teams was also commissioned by TDL Victoria to develop an interactive website on Supply Chain Awareness for Port of Melbourne which was a finalist at the Australian Shipping Awards.
- Ridley AgriProducts announced 2008 Victorian Employer of the Year at the Victorian Training Awards. Innoven is the primary educational provider for Ridley.
- NCDEA goes national, delivery now undertaken on behalf of the NCDEA by partners South Australia, Queensland, New South Wales and Western Australia
Staff
- Naomi Rivers awarded Corrections Victoria Staff Achievement at Beechworth Prison for her commitment and dedication to education with prisoners
- Robyn Richards from NCDEA announced 2008 Victorian Teacher/Trainer of the Year at Victorian Training Awards
- Michael Loscavo was a finalist for the Victorian VET Client Service/Support Excellence Award
- Koorie Educator, Roland Atkinson, was awarded the prestigious 2008 Victorian Aboriginal Education Association Incorporated (VAEAI) Wurreker Teacher/Trainer Award and was named as one of two Emerging Leaders as part of the Fellowship for Indigenous Leadership program
- Melinda Howlett and Celia Turnbull from the National Centre for Equine Education were the winners of the inaugural Agri-Food International Fellowship, awarded in collaboration with the International Specialised Skills Institute
- Kim Banfield and his Baking Team won pie making gold medal at the National Bake Skills Competition
Students
- NCEE student Haley Andrews was the 2008 winner of the North East Thoroughbred Breeders Victoria Scholarship
- Erin Peers was a finalist in the Victorian Koorie Student of the Year Award
- Jason Smith from the NCDEA was a Victorian Trainee of the Year finalist and VFF Apprentice of the Year
- Jessica Bon from the NCEE was the winner of the 2008 Irish National Stud Scholarship
- Reeshan Taurins, Wangaratta Hospitality Student, winner of gold medal for best first year apprentice at the TAFE Culinary Trophy National Final
2007
Corporate
- Institute is the first Australian TAFE to gain full Investors in People accreditation against the international standard
- Institute selected as finalist in the Large Training Provider of the Year category for the second year running
- Institute’s Marketing and Multimedia teams recognised as the best in Australia at the Australian TAFE Marketing Association (ATMA) awards
- Winner of the 2006 Australian TAFE Marketing Association Awards for best Annual Report
- NCDEA Winner of the 2006 Australian TAFE Marketing Association Awards for best marketing campaign under $50,000
- NCDEA Dairy Processing won two awards at the Dairy Industry Association of Australia Product Competition, and also won at South Australia’s Specialty Cheese Show
- Ridley Stockfeed Ltd announced as finalist at Victorian Training Awards as “Industry Employer Provider of the Year”. Extensive training products were produced by GOTAFE and used at many Ridley sites
- Performance Sector of the NCEE established a formal MoU with the Equestrian Federation of Australia
Staff
- International Specialised Skills Institute fellowships awarded to three GOTAFE staff, Leigh Taig (Horticulture), Stephen Pinnuck (Hospitality) and Sandra Vazzoler.
- Robyn Farley was a finalist in the 2006 VET Client Service/Support Excellence Award at Victorian Training Awards
- Two Gold Stars awarded to Dookie College Agriculture team by the Institute for Trade Skills Excellence
- Roland Atkinson was a finalist for Teacher/Trainer of the Year at the Wurreker Awards
Students
- Paul Wakenshaw, building apprentice based at William Orr campus, was announced as the Master Builders of Australia North East Apprentice of the Year
- Horticultural student Justin Dodd recipient of Australian Hydroponics and Greenhouse Association Scholarship
- NCEE student Alice Hume wins Australian Vocational Student Prize
- Angie Reiners announced as the winner of the 2007 Irish National stud Scholarship
2006
Corporate
- Institute recognised as state’s best Victorian TAFE Institute providing Koorie vocational education and training at the Wurreker Awards
- Institute selected as finalist in the Large Training Provider of the Year category
- Wangaratta TEC, the first TEC for the state, launched by Minister Kosky
- NCDEA began delivery of dairy farming education programs and had its first intake of students
- Koorie Education Unit wins national contract to deliver one of 10 Indigenous Youth Mobility Programs (IYMP)
- Multicultural Education Centre received Victorian Multicultural Commission’s Award for Excellence in Multicultural Affairs
Staff
- Roger Driscoll, Innoven Meat Processing trainer, won an International Specialist Skills Scholarship, and was subsequently the keynote speaker at the 2006 Meat Industry National Education Conference in Brisbane
- Gaye Gauci received the Industry Champion Award from the Agri-Foods Industry Skills Council
Students
- NCDEA students won three awards at the November Victorian Young Achievement Australia Student Business Awards
- Luke Phillips, Building and Construction apprentice, won the North East Region Apprentice of the Year at 2006 Master Builders Awards
- Cheeses made by NCDEA students at Werribee campus won 2 gold medals at South Australia’s first Speciality Cheese Show, Cheesefest
- Advanced Diploma Multimedia Student Jamie Bosanko receives Eastern Washington University Scholarship
- Jessica Birnie from the NCEE announced the 2006 winner of the Irish National Stud Scholarship
- Sally Burt Dookie College Agricultural Student wins two scholarships from the Invergowie Foundation and Coca-Cola Regional scholarship Program
