A

Assessor – A qualified person that will make the judgement whether you meet all the competency requirements or require more training.

AQF - Australian Qualifications Framework. This framework defines all qualifications recognized nationally in post compulsory education and training within Australia.

Candidate – The person applying for recognition AQF - Australian Qualifications Framework. This framework defines all qualifications recognized nationally in post compulsory education and training within Australia.

Competent – What is competent?
Being able to do the things I am required to do. 
Knowing how and why I do things.
Knowing what to do if things go wrong.
Having the right approach to do my job properly and safely
Being able to adopt what I do to similar but different situations in my work.

Current – Current knowledge of industry legislation, practice and standards, generally within the past two to three years but this may depend on the industry.

Evidence – The information provided to your assessor which allows them to make a judgement. Please see Evidence Samples

P

Portfolio – A collection of workplace samples for evidence.

Q

Qualification – A formal certification issued by a Registered Training Organisation that a person has achieved all the requirements of the qualification as specified in an endorsed training package.

R

RCC – Recognition of Current Competency

Recognition – Recognition is a process whereby evidence is collected and a judgement is made by an assessor or assessment team against the requirements of one or more endorsed units of competency from a relevant Training Package. The judgement is made on evidence provided by candidates of the skills and knowledge that they have previously learnt through work, study, life and other experiences and that they are currently using.

Relevant teaching area – There are many teaching areas such as Accounting, Construction, Information Technology, Hospitality, Equine studies, Plumbing, automotive. Ask to speak to a teacher in the area you are interested applying for recognition in.

RPL – Recognition of Prior Learning

Statement of attainment/Statement of Results – A record of results and/or recognized learning or training.

U

Unit of competency – A unit of competency details the skills and knowledge required and the standard of performance expected
