Farm Skills Centre
A Farm Skills Centre established by GOTAFE and based at the William Orr Campus in Shepparton offers a range of short courses providing specific skills for the farming community.
The Farm Skills Centre was established to ensure farming communities can access nationally accredited training vital to operating a productive and safe farm environment.
Farm workers can obtain a range of practical farm skills and good occupational health and safety management practices to protect themselves and their families.
The Farm Skills Centre also supports young people gain accredited skills and knowledge to increase their employment opportunities.
The one or two day courses include farm safety, chainsaws, safe ATV operation, safe tractor operation and farm chemical usage and operates throughout the year allowing people to choose a date that suits their workload.
Another initiative is the Women in Agriculture program “My Business. My Future”. The program is a series of practical one or two day workshops to help women manage their farming activities.
The Farm Skills Centre aims to
- Improve workers safety on farms and other rural enterprises
- Improve nationally accredited training for the rural industry
- Provide basic farm skills to improve productivity and safety
- Provide a service for industry, schools and government
- Support young people to gain accredited skills and knowledge to increase their employment opportunities
